Editorial, sourcing & corrections policy
apeks.tech is an independent maritime-technology publication operated by Apeks Marine. This page explains how we source, verify, label and correct what we publish.
Independence
We publish in our own name and interest. We do not sell coverage, and articles are not paid placements. When we write about our own products (such as HullSnap) or the wider Apeks Marine ecosystem, we say so plainly.
Sourcing & verification
- Every news brief cites at least one primary source — the publication the story actually rests on — linked at the foot of the article and checked to be reachable at the moment of publication. Where other outlets have covered the same subject, they appear separately as related coverage and are never presented as our source.
- We summarise in our own words and attribute; we do not copy source text.
- Before a brief is published, an automated check reads every figure, name and organisation in the draft back against the source text. Anything it cannot find there is held for a human rather than published.
- We avoid unverified superlatives ("first / largest / leading / best") and never invent figures, names or quotes.
- Facts that we cannot verify are left out or clearly marked as unconfirmed.
Facts vs. the Apeks view
Reporting and opinion are kept strictly separate. The body of a news brief is neutral, sourced reporting. Any interpretation appears only inside a clearly labelled “Apeks view” block — a synthesis of facts already cited in the article, written to the editorial standards of a working marine engineer (about the editor), never a new unsourced claim. It passes the same verification check as the reporting around it.
Use of AI
We use AI to discover and draft news coverage. What reaches the site is decided by a documented gate rather than by a person reading every draft, and we would rather describe that plainly than imply an editor stands behind each brief at the moment it appears.
A draft publishes automatically only if it passes every check: at least one reachable primary source from our approved list, the verification check described above, and a routine risk classification. If any check fails — or the subject is classified as sensitive — the draft is held and goes live only after a human editor has read it and approved it; approvals of sensitive material require a written reason, which is recorded. Guides, analysis and the tools do not go through that pipeline at all: they are commissioned and published deliberately rather than on a schedule, the editor sets the brief and is accountable for what appears, and every figure in them is checked against the primary source cited beside it.
The standards the gate enforces are set by the editor, versioned, and applied identically on every run. AI drafts within them; it does not decide them, and it cannot change them.
Dates & updates
Each article shows its publication date, and an update date when it has been revised. Structured data (NewsArticle) carries the same datePublished and dateModified so the record is machine-readable.
Corrections
If you spot an error, tell us and we will fix it. Email hello@apeks.tech with the article and the correction. When we amend an article, we update its modification date; material corrections are noted in the article.
