New Hire Brings Bunker Market Experience to Gothenburg Office

Marine fuel supplier and trading company ScanOcean has appointed Lars Malmbratt as senior commercial manager at its Gothenburg, Sweden office. According to a report by Ship & Bunker, Malmbratt joined the company this month, with the appointment confirmed in an emailed company update.

Malmbratt arrives at ScanOcean from Stena Bulk, where he had served as bunker procurement manager since 2012. Before that role, he held commercial positions at Topoil, a company now part of Bunker One Sweden, as well as at Stena Oil.

Company Comments on the Appointment

Jonatan Karlström, Managing Director of ScanOcean, said Malmbratt brings substantial knowledge, industry relationships and commercial experience gathered across the bunker market. Karlström added that Malmbratt is expected to contribute to the company’s ongoing growth plans, including expanding its customer base, forming new partnerships and pursuing further commercial opportunities.

Context Within the Bunker Trading Sector

The appointment comes amid broader movement within the bunker trading and supply sector, with personnel changes and corporate activity reported across the market. ScanOcean’s move to bolster its Gothenburg commercial team reflects continued interest among fuel suppliers in strengthening client relationships and procurement expertise as market conditions evolve.

No further details on Malmbratt’s specific responsibilities or additional personnel changes at ScanOcean were disclosed in the announcement.

Apeks view — This is a personnel move, not an operational or evidence story, so there’s little here bearing directly on vessel condition or technical risk. Still, it’s a reminder that bunker procurement runs on relationships and judgment built over years in the market. For owners and managers, the underlying discipline that matters is the same regardless of who sits in the commercial seat: fuel quality, delivery, and contract terms need to be documented and verifiable, not taken on reputation alone.
