Get it by emailCO₂ factors (CF) are the IMO/MRV standard values (Regulation (EU) 2015/757). Scope and phase-in rules follow the European Commission’s shipping-in-EU-ETS rules. This is an independent estimate, not a compliance calculation: it does not account for methane and nitrous oxide (covered from 2026), ice-class or small-island derogations, or your verified MRV figures. Confirm your obligation with your verifier and the current rules. The allowance cost is only the EU half of the picture — the same voyage also moves the ship's CII rating band under MARPOL Annex VI.

What is the EU ETS for shipping?
From 2024 maritime transport is inside the EU Emissions Trading System. Shipping companies must surrender emission allowances (EUAs) for the CO₂ their ships emit on voyages involving EEA ports. It applies to ships of 5,000 gross tonnage and above, regardless of flag. This tool estimates the allowance cost of a single voyage.
Which share of my voyage is covered?
100% of emissions on a voyage between two EEA ports, and 100% at berth in an EEA port. For a voyage with one leg outside the EEA — into or out of the area — 50% of the emissions are covered. The tool applies these shares for you.
Why does the year change the cost?
The obligation was phased in: companies surrendered allowances for 40% of verified 2024 emissions, 70% of 2025 emissions, and 100% of emissions from 2026 onward. Pick the year the emissions occur in and the tool applies the right share.
Does this include methane and nitrous oxide?
No — this estimate is CO₂ only. From 2026 the EU ETS also covers CH₄ and N₂O from shipping, so for 2026 onward your real obligation is somewhat higher than the CO₂-only figure here. Treat the result as a floor for those years.
Does this tool send my figures anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser. The fuel, voyage and price you enter are never transmitted, logged or stored, and there is no sign-in.
