Scope: the age trigger applies to dry bulk and general cargo vessels. Vessel age is counted from the date of delivery.
On phase 4: RightShip updated the final step on 26 May 2026. Its owner, manager and charterer guidance now gives 10.5 years from 20 January 2027. Earlier RightShip publications gave 10 years from 1 January 2027; that figure no longer applies. A vessel without a valid RightShip inspection when it comes into scope has its Safety Score downgraded to 2 out of 5.

What is the RightShip inspection age trigger?
It is the vessel age at which RightShip expects a valid RightShip inspection to be in place. RightShip is reducing that age from 14 years to 10.5 across four phases, for dry bulk and general cargo vessels. A vessel that reaches the relevant age without a valid inspection — or, if it is already older, a vessel without one on the phase implementation date — has its Safety Score downgraded.
When does the 11-year trigger apply?
Phase 3, at 11 years, has an implementation date of 1 July 2026. Phase 2, at 12 years, applied from 1 April 2026, and phase 1, at 13 years, ran from 1 July to 1 October 2025.
When does the final phase apply?
Phase 4, at 10.5 years, applies from 20 January 2027. RightShip updated this final step on 26 May 2026; earlier RightShip publications had given 10 years from 1 January 2027, and that figure no longer applies.
