Baker Hughes to Supply Subsea Systems for Indonesian Gas Hub

Contract Scope for Kutei North Hub

Baker Hughes has secured an award from Searah North Ganal, a subsidiary of Searah — the 50/50 independent joint venture between Eni and Petronas in Southeast Asia — to supply subsea production systems and digital solutions for the Kutei North Hub development offshore Indonesia. According to a report by Offshore Energy, the contract covers the integrated development of the recently discovered Geng North and Gehem fields.

Under the deal, Baker Hughes will provide 17 deepwater horizontal tree systems along with associated manifolds, connections, and control and distribution systems. The company will also deploy its Cordant asset protection and condition monitoring systems, intended to identify and mitigate risks to critical equipment and help prevent unplanned downtime.

Local Manufacturing and Supply Chain

Baker Hughes said it will draw on its operational and manufacturing capabilities within Indonesia to support the project, delivering trees from its Global Manufacturing Center for Subsea Trees in Batam. Its Balikpapan facility will provide additional operational and service support, which the company says is intended to strengthen supply chain resilience and project delivery efficiency.

The subsea production systems are meant to support natural gas output that will contribute to Indonesia’s LNG capacity and domestic energy supply.

Building on Earlier Work

This award follows on from Baker Hughes’ prior involvement in the Kutei North Hub project. Last year, the company was awarded a contract for flash gas compressors for the development’s planned floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit, which is designed to process over 1 billion standard cubic feet per day of gas and 90,000 barrels per day of condensate, with storage capacity of 1.4 million barrels.

Amerino Gatti, Baker Hughes’ Executive Vice President of Oilfield Services & Equipment, said the Kutei North Hub development represents an important step in Indonesia’s effort to deliver natural gas and LNG domestically and regionally. He added that combining the company’s subsea production technologies, digital solutions and offshore project experience is meant to support reliable and optimized production from subsea systems through to gas processing and export.

The Searah award to Baker Hughes follows the joint venture’s recent contract with Saipem for engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of an FPSO for the same Kutei Basin project in East Kalimantan.
