RightShip readiness reference
RightShip’s Safety Score and vetting result are RightShip’s own — this does not calculate them. What it does is lay out the factors RightShip publicly says it uses, and the things an owner or manager can prepare against each one. Use it alongside the age-trigger checker and the PSC checklist.
This is not a score. It produces no number and reproduces no RightShip questionnaire. Every factor below is drawn from RightShip’s own published material — the Safety Score and methodology pages, the vessel vetting methodology, and the August 2025 PSC-severity update.
1 Management company (DOC holder) performance
RightShip states the ship-management company’s record is one of the major factors in a vessel’s Safety Score. A vessel inherits some of its manager’s standing.
2 Port State Control results & detentions
PSC inspection outcomes — deficiencies and detentions — feed the Safety Score. Since 20 August 2025 RightShip weights deficiencies by severity, not just count.
3 Incident & casualty history
Vessel incident and accident records are a published input to both the Safety Score and the wider vetting criteria.
4 Class & flag records
Classification-society performance and flag-State performance are named sub-inputs to RightShip’s assessment.
5 Inspection validity & vessel age
RightShip states age is not part of the Safety Score model, but a valid RightShip inspection becomes required as a vessel ages — the age trigger. Without a valid inspection at the relevant age, the vessel’s standing is downgraded.
This is an independent preparation reference. It is not a RightShip product, carries no RightShip endorsement, produces no Safety Score, and reproduces no RightShip questionnaire. The Safety Score, the vetting decision and the inspection criteria are RightShip’s alone. RightShip updates its model — the August 2025 severity change is one example — so confirm the current position with RightShip before relying on any factor here. Does this tool calculate my RightShip Safety Score?
No. It does not produce a score of any kind. The Safety Score is RightShip’s own model, calculated by RightShip from data it holds. This is a preparation reference: it lists the factors RightShip publicly says it uses, with actions you can take to be ready. For your actual score and vetting result, go to RightShip.
What does RightShip actually look at?
By RightShip’s own published material, the Safety Score draws on the management company’s (DOC holder’s) record, Port State Control outcomes, incident and casualty history, and class and flag performance. Vessel age is not in the Safety Score model itself, but a valid RightShip inspection becomes required as a vessel ages — the age trigger. In August 2025 RightShip changed how it weights PSC deficiencies, moving to severity-based weighting.
Is this RightShip’s inspection questionnaire?
No. This reference does not reproduce RightShip’s inspection questionnaire (RISQ/RVIQ) or any proprietary question set. It is organised around the high-level, publicly described factors only, as a preparation aid.
Does this tool send my data anywhere?
No. It is a static reference with a print option. There is nothing to submit, no account and no tracking of what you tick.
